Top Consult To Tap Into Property Market

New appraisal company Topconsult, Inc. is building its business on expected demand for property appraisers well versed in handling banks’ idle assets and new accounting rules which demand more property valuation inputs. The company is tapping into the niche market of companies which need guidance on international valuation standards following the adoption of new international accounting standards. The company is also eyeing business doing valuations for special purpose vehicles (SPVs) or asset management companies allowed to purchase banks’ bad assets at substantial discounts to their book values.

Metrobank Sells P8.7 billion in bad loans to asset firm

Largest lender Metropolitan Bank and Trust Company (Metrobank) sold P8.7 billion worth of bad loans to Barclays Capital through a competitive bidding last week.

Abelardo Garcia, Jr., president of appraisal company Topconsult, Inc. said his client Barclays Capital had bested seven other special purpose vehicles (SPV) that had participated in the auction. The financial advisor was Altus Transactional Services.
